Importance of SCO in Iran’s “Look East” Policy from Geopolitical Perspective

Seyedi Asl S., Can Z.A.

Abstract

Amid the unprecedented rise in global geopolitical risks, the world is increasingly recognizing that the architecture of the old world order is giving way to a new system of international relations and regional blocs. The ongoing regional and global transformations reflect both the realities and the future directions of this emerging order. Acknowledging this dynamic has prompted the Islamic Republic of Iran to align its foreign policy doctrine with the principles of multilateralism, seeking active participation in organizations and institutions such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Particularly since Ebrahim Raisi assumed office, Iran has pursued a policy of “turning to the East,” both geopolitically and geo-economically. Within the framework of this east-oriented strategy, Tehran aims to assume a more active role in the evolving global order, capitalizing on its geo-strategic position in the new geopolitical landscape.
